Ammonites were a ‘squid’ that had a protective shell, with air chambers used to control buoyancy. These chambers are a good representation of the Fibonacci Sequence and during fossilisation often contains calcite, aragonite or other minerals. Ammonites became extinct during the KT Extinction event, although their relative, the nautilus, survives to this day.
